A Northeastern Winter
A Northeastern Winter
Iceland’s Yule Lads bring in excitement and adventure

The Northeast has long been called the ‘land of winter adventure’. When the earth is covered with a blanket of white and its flora has prepared itself for the long winter sleep, the Yule Lads who live in Dimmuborgir begin to stir once again, bringing life, excitement and a sense of wonder to the season.
At this time, the people of Þingeyjarsýsla have on offer a variety of adventurous recreations to brighten up the toil of everyday life. Everyone can find something to suit their interests.
In the Mývatn region you can rent cross country skis or purchase access to the Winter Garden, which offers go-karts, ice bowling, ice golf and even ice cricket!  Snowmobile trips are also popular and by Krafla volcano is a small tow lift. The Mývatn Nature Baths are open year round. There you can relax after an eventful day under a starry sky or even in a snowdrift.
Anything can happen in the depths of an Icelandic winter. The view from the mountains is an impressive one and the Northern Lights can often be seen high in the sky on a clear, frosty winter’s night. It is a wonderful opportunity to spend the Christmas holidays in the embrace of these high, snowy mountains - a really good way to recharge one’s batteries!
